Nursing gives me the opportunity to reach people from many different places, ethnic groups and backgrounds... At times I
am their voice or a shoulder
to cry on.

I view the Hispanic Nursing Project as the most rewarding program offered. It provides support, motivation, and opportunities that will benefit you later in your nursing practice.

I chose Carroll College because the smaller campus size gave me the opportunity for a more personal learning environment.

I am grateful for the academic and other support programs of the Hispanic Nursing Project. It made the more difficult courses more manageable.

Not only is there a nationwide shortage of nurses overall, but there is a particular need for nurses to serve the Hispanic/Latino population. Hispanics are the largest minority group in the United States.
Carroll University’s Hispanic Nursing Project (HNP) is an academic support program funded through a Nursing Workforce Diversity Grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. The institution received its first grant in 2004 and received a three-year continuation grant in 2007. The Hispanic Nursing Project is a funded support program to prepare students who have educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds for a career in nursing.
Why the Hispanic Nursing Project?
- Pre-freshmen year, four-day Summer Institute to help prepare you for college.
- Academic support tailored to your schedule to ensure your success in the nursing major.
- Individualized advising from the Hispanic Nursing Project coordinator.
- Mentoring from an upper class nursing student.
- CNA course, if placement available, offered during the January term and paid for by the HNP.
- Scholarships if determined eligible by the Carroll Financial Aid Office and HNP criteria.
- Resume writing, job placement assistance and much more.
