Diversity encompasses differences in gender, age, physical and mental disability, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religious denomination, ethnicity, political affiliation, geographical background, and much more. It is associated with all of the differences in the multidimensional aspects of the human race and how we become aware and accept these differences in ourselves and others.
The Office of Cultural Diversity at Carroll College is committed to diversity by providing student support services and programs that orient students with the culture of the Carroll institution and assist students in their adjustment of their educational goals. These programs directly benefit the Carroll student body, faculty, and staff as well as the Waukesha community. In turn, they provide the whole community with opportunities to gain a greater appreciation for the diversity represented on campus.Students have a plethora of opportunities to be active advocates of diversity. Programs such as the Multicultural Film Festival, International Folk Fair, Diversity Forum, Winter Holidays Around the World, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Black History Month are only a few of the programs that students may participate in, help organize, or support on campus.
Some other opportunities include involvement in any of our 52 student organizations such as: the Black Student Union, the Latin American Student Organization, the International Experiences Club, Outright (LGBT organization), College Activities Board, Student Senate, The New Perspective (student newspaper), WCCX (radio station), Habitat for Humanity, Carroll College Christians’ Fellowship, College Democrats, Young Republicans, and many more.
Carroll also provides the Multicultural Suite, which is a place of comfort and welcome for all students and members of the campus community. The suite serves as a lounge, study room, resource center, information and referral center, meeting room, and a place to participate in a variety of academic, cultural, and social activities. Many student organizations utilize the suite on a weekly basis.
Through student services and programs, the Office of Cultural Diversity provides a place of comfort, education, culture, and pluralism to the Carroll College community.
