The office of chaplain serves the college community to provide a spiritual presence and program leadership. With the goals of nurturing spiritual awareness, building community, and encouraging service to others, the chaplain is available to students, faculty, staff, neighbors, and alumni.

The full-time, Presbyterian, college chaplain is the Reverend Bill Humphreys. He came to this position in September, 2000, from over eleven years as pastor of the nearby, downtown Waukesha, First Presbyterian Church, and from five years of service to the College on the Board of Trustees.

Humphrey Memorial Chapel

The Humphrey Memorial Chapel and Art Center was dedicated in May, 1996, in memory of Glenn L. and Gertrude Humphrey, members of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee.

The Chapel comfortably seats up to 150 in flexible seating, and features a five foot grand piano and custom-designed chancel furniture. The pulpit, communion table and three side tables were funded in large part as a memorial to the Reverend Robert Buzza, long time Waukesha Presbyterian minister and formerly Carroll Chaplain and Dean of Students.

Striking features of the chapel include its clear window cupola on the roof, and a round north end of the building. A curve of translucent windows in the rounded area usually used as the focus for worship provides natural lighting and a muted view to the outside, reminding worshipers inside of their connections to the outside world.

Also quickly attractive to visitors and worshipers on the inside are the chandelier and sconce lighting fixtures which include a traditional light bulb and shade next to a candle shaped base and bulb. The fixtures suggest both old and new, both traditional and modern approaches to the activities of religious programming and worship on the campus!

The mix of lightly shaded wall coverings, bright blue carpeting, and wood grain woodwork in the room and chairs also contributes to the striking, simple beauty of the chapel.

Use of the chapel is encouraged and regulated by campus policies. Priority approval is granted for campus worship events, campus religious programming; college related student, faculty, staff reservations; and outside community use. While considering all valid requests for the use of the chapel, the college, in consultation with the chaplain, reserves all rights to control the use of the chapel for reasons of religious expression as well as scheduled availability. Fees for the use of the chapel will be applied according to the fee schedule in force at the time of its use.
