History

The Wisconsin Private College Initiative for Diversity Conference originated at Carthage College in the fall of 2004. It was inspired by the vision of a Carthage graduate, Derrick Collins, who modeled the conference after the American Multicultural Student Leadership Conference, sponsored by the University of Wisconsin System.

Mission Statement

The Wisconsin Private College Initiative for Diversity Conference will provide a
collaborative forum in which students, faculty and staff can learn about differences, discuss diversity related issues, and create an action plan for their own campuses and communities.

Conference Goals

  • To promote an understanding and appreciation of diversity through a variety of educational programs.
  • To strengthen relationships among diverse groups within the community.
  • To provide experiences that will serve as models for building cross-cultural communities.
  • To motivate participants to advocate for diversity related programs and activities at each school.
  • To recognize opportunities for changing oneself and encouraging change in others.
